Tiwai staff cut by 27
PA Invercargill The Tiwai aluminium smelter’s salaried workforce was cut by 27 today. New Zealand Aluminium Smelters intends to reduce the wage workforce by a further 42 people through attrition.
The company yesterday began telling staff members affected individually that they were no longer needed. Not all of the 27 have yet been informed.
“A bloody shock to the system,” was the way one person reacted to the news.
