PA Invercargill The Tiwai aluminium smelter’s salaried workforce was cut by 27 today. New Zealand Aluminium Smelters intends to reduce the wage workforce by a further 42 people through attrition.

The company yesterday began telling staff members affected individually that they were no longer needed. Not all of the 27 have yet been informed.
