Week-end car thefts start early
Christchurch car thieves kept the police busy yesterday, the number Of [bars stolen running to double figures. A police spokesman said that at least eight cars had been reported stolen during the afternoon shift. Six of these were in the central-city area, one from the Richmond Working Men’s Club and another from Riccarton.
At least eight more were reported stolen during the first few hours of the night shift.
The spokesman said that Friday evening usually signalled the start of the weekend spate of thefts but the early start this week meant that Christchurch was "heading for a bumper week-end” of car thefts.
