Cashmere garden wins award
A garden in Cashmere has won the Andrews Cup in the open class of the Christchurch Beautifying Association’s spring garden competition.
The garden, at 14 Cashmere View Street, is owned by R. B. Prebble. Second in the open class was Mrs K. Asher, of 29 Middlepark Road, and third were L. Dick and Mrs Dick, or 253 Hendersons Road. The judges said that the colour combinations used were pleasing and there were some delightful focal points in individual spring gardens.
The quality of the gardens reached a high standard of natural home garden concept, they said. Other results were:
Clark-Everett Cup for best spring garden at flats: R. P. Clark and Mrs Clark, 226 Sawyers Arms Road, 1; N. Abbott and Mrs Abbott, 26a Apollo Place, 2; Mrs B. A. Bellis, 48 Main North Road, 3. Gray Trophy for best novice spring garden: Mrs C. C. Palmer, 76 North Parade, 1; J. W. Smith and Mrs Smith, Pound Road, Yaldhurst, 2; Mr C. D. Liddell, 54 Penruddick Rise, 3.
