Father, son die at sea
PA Auckland The sea claimed a man and his son while two other persons are missing, presumed drowned, in three separate mishaps in the Auckland area at the weekend.
The bodies of a man and his son, both described by the police as keen fishermen, were found on the shore near where their aluminium dinghy overturned about 48km up Muriwai Beach at 6 a.m. yesterday.
The were John Louis Reece, aged 53; and
Trevor James Reece, aged 28, both of Kelston, Auckland. A police spokesman said
it was believed the men went fishing on Saturday afternoon and that during the night their dinghy was swamped. Meanwhile, a shoreline search at Karekare beach yesterday found no trace of a man reported missing by friends at 1 p.m. on Saturday. The man had been fishing off rocks.
He is Tereorometua Albert, aged 31, of Grey Lynn. A search has failed to find an Auckland woman after a diving accident off the Mokohinau islands, in the outer Hauraki Gulf, about 8.30 a.m. on Saturday. She is Lesley Carmichael, aged 34, of Orakei.
