A.I.D.S. ‘not political’
PA Auckland A.I.D.S. should not be made a political issue, says the Venereological Society. “It is too important a subject to allow for pointscoring in the House (of Representatives) or other places,” the society’s president, Dr John Keane, has told the annual meeting. Dr Keane said the society sought an approach by both main parties to the issue. The society was con-
cerned that resources were not being put into frontline services such as clinics for sexually transmitted diseases. Dr Keane said the society was also concerned that in spite of directives from the Health Department, some hospital boards had not planned to offer diagnostic A.1.D.5.-testing services at the same time as blood banks began screening all blood.
