Volleyballersi beaten
NZPA-AAP Melbourne Chinese Taipei assumed early favouritism for the women’s title after downing New Zealand in the opening match of the world volleyball championship qualifying tournament at Melbourne’s Sports -and Entertainment Centre yesterday. The Taipei women turned on precision ball handling and power spiking to sweep to a 15-4, ,15-11, 15-2 victory.
The second set was marked by a New Zealand revival and the Kiwis forced a Taipei timeout at 0-4. \ The New Zealanders continued ;to block the Taipei spikers and ran to a 10-6 lead.
