Scimitar display
The Mayor of Christchurch, Sir Hamish Hay, holds the pearl-encrusted scimitar presented by'the retiring Governor-General, Sir David Beattie, at a civic farewell last evening. The sword, a. gift from the Amir of Bahrain, will be displayed in the Canterbury Museum for three years before it is sent to Dunedin
for an equivalent time. A toss of a coin decided which city would hold the sword first. Sir Hamish called tails and won.
