Wellington reporter Rapid moves during the last year towards regionally based tourism were of real benefit to Canterbury, said Mrs Margaret Austin (Lab., Yaldhurst). These moves showed a ’reater maturity in the New Zealand tourist industry and people in Canterbury should make the most of the schemes available to de-
velop regionally based tourism, she said. More tourist decisions needed to be made outside Wellington by the people who would be most affected by them. By encouraging regional tourism, the Government was diversifying it. This would result in more jobs in Canterbury, and other benefits too.
