The world is your oyster

I am an early morning reader of the Press. At the same time I listen for the weather report on the radio: 22 degrees today. How I admire some of the young and not so young who seem to have the very garment ready for an unseasonable day such as this. I ponder on what to wear.
My business was going to take me near Taylors Mistake. If my planning went to schedule I could have a treat and take my dog for a walk on the beach.
What a joy, Taylors Mistake beach is still one of the most beautiful, natural, almost wild beaches I know. Surrounded by the hills, it has stayed the same since I was a child. Thank goodness to date there are no large concrete car parks, one can still walk along the beach almost in privacy. My prayer was, “Please may Taylors Mistake be the same in years to come.” My apparel decision: linen slacks' and shirt.
Q. I would like help with a lounge we are in the process of decorating. I enclose samples of the brown curtains and cream wallpaper which are already in place. We are putting down a new floor as the old one is uneven and rotten. We intend to use polyurethane so it will be light brown. The fireplace is painted a slightly lighter brown than the curtains. The room faces north west and is approximately 6m by
4m. it has a wide veranda running right round it; a ranch slider opens on to the veranda . I have enclosed a rough sketch. I would appreciate your advice on four items:
® A fabric to cover the suite.
® A colour to paint the ceiling and woodwork.
• A rug for the floor.
• Shades for the two lights which hang on cords from the ceiling. As yet there are no paintings and the piano is the only furniture.
— Gabrielle,
do wish you had given me some preference as to colour, as with cream and brown the world is your oyster. I have chosen a Sander-
son. Although it has an off white background it is well covered with gold roses, turquoise blue flowers and brown and green leaves. For an extra chair I suggest Vyking wool, the Thor range in pigeon. This is a turquoise with slightly more colour than in the Sanderson. For cushions pick out the gold of the roses.
Paint the ceiling and woodwork Dulux moonwhite. With the wide veranda I imagine you will require as much light as possible. Floor rugs could be either gold or turquoise. If the lamps are required for reading choose cream shades. A colour really cuts down the light. Good luck with your decorating!
Q.I would be grateful for some help in choosing a bedspread for my 20-month-old daughter’s room. Her wallpaper matches the frilly blind. I am not sure of the name for the blind: it is like a picture theatre used to have.
She has a white wrought iron bed, a white set of drawers, and a petticoat table with a maroon and pink cloth. This could be changed. I would like something she could grow into. — Sue, Blenheim.
A.Your daughter’s room sounds very pretty with Laura Ashley little pink on white flower. The Austrian blind trimmed with lace must be very feminine.
There is no reason to change the cloth but I would keep the bedspread plain. I would use Wilsons gloaming C 3132 rose. This fabric is a chintz and can be washed. It will complete your daughter’s very attractive room. )
