Rangipo power on

PA Hamilton

The Rangipo power station is back in action as disputing parties resume mediation in Wellington over an underground allowance.

Staff imposed a ban last Saturday after an industrial mediator failed to gain agreement between the Public Service Association and the State .Services Commission over the allowance. The 120mW station was shut down for several days

in late August over the same issue. The Electricity Division’s general manager, Mr Kevin McCool, said yesterday that the Rangipo shutdown could put the nation’s power system at risk. Industrial action at Rangipo would affect the control centre at Tokaanu, a key point in North-South power transmission, he said. A P.S.A. spokesman in Wellington said the association had revised its claim down to $1.25 an hour.
