Four-year cashgora contract signed
A four-year contract to supply at least $2.5 million worth of goat fibres to a British manufacturer has been signed by a fledgling New Zealand marketing committee.
An interim fibre marketing committee of cashmere and mohair producers has negotiated the British contract in the absence of a statutory marketing ityA Mohair Producers Association spokesman, Mr Rob Aitken, said the contract involved a minimum 25 tonnes a year of cashgora (crossbred mohair) “B” fibre (between 20 and 22 microns) to a Bradford company, Animal Fibres Ltd. New Zealand will pro-
duce about 75 tonnes of mobair in the current season. He said the contract contains an escalation clause allowing a 10 per cent annual increase over the base figure. “An initial price of $22 per kilo has been agreed, rising to $24.20 in the second year then $26.60 and’ $29.90 in the subsequent years.” The contract will allow producers to budget their returns from farming crossbredgoats, Mr Aitken said.
