Mr Moyle has his problems

Problems were piling up on the desk of the Minister of Agriculture, Mr Moyle, like the E.E.C. butter mountain, according to the Opposition spokesman on agriculture, Mr lan McLean. Mr McLean listed the major problems which require urgent action: • “High interest rates which are driving farmers to desperation; • “The high exchange rate which is destroying export profitability; • “Rampant cost inflation hurting farmers; • “Lamb marketing which is in limbo just days before the new season starts; O “The meat works rationalisation fiasco; • “No Meat Industry Council Bill yet; • Horticultural marketing in limbo while a decision is made on the Horticultural Export Authority Bill. Mr McLean said that farmers and people in provincial towns were telling him that they were wondering how they were going to survive. “The National Party will continue to co-operate and offer practical proposals to deal with the issues” said Mr McLean, “but we can’t co-operate with a vacuum.”
