Scientists honoured

Three leading agricultural scientists were honoured by the Institute of Agricultural Science at its annual convention.

Mr Peter Blomfield, executive director of the Meat Industry Association since 1974, was elected an honorary life member of the institute.

The award recognises Mr Blomfield’s four year term as national secretary of the institute and editor of the Journal of Agricultural Science.

Mr Neil Taylor, director of the Meat and Wool

Boards’ Economic Service since 1978, was made an honorary fellow. The award recognises his contribution to the agricultural industry, the institute said.

Professor Keith Syers was elected a fellow of the institute.

He has been head of the Soil Science Department at Massey University since 1972, and leaves New Zealand this year to become Professor of Soil Science at the University of Newcastle in Britain.
