Reagan returning to hospital

NZPA-AP Washington The President of the United States, Mr Ronald Reagan, would visit Bethesda Naval Hospital tomorrow for the first in a series of normal and routine follow-up examinations in connection with his cancer surgery of July 13, the White House said yesterday. The announcement said that the examination would include chest X-rays and blood tests and that the results would be announced next week. Peter Roussel, a White House spokesman, said that the . doctors discovered a malignant tumour. Doctors said after the surgery that it appeared there were no more cancer cells in Mr Reagan’s body and that the 74-year-old President should be fully recovered in six to eight weeks. Mr Reagan was told after the operation that he would have to undergo regular examinations to determine any recurrence of cancer. Those tests range from monthly blood tests and laboratory examination of his faeces to less frequent Xrays and computerised scans of his vital organs. The President was told that he would have to undergo a colonoscopy within six months after the surgery.
