Mr Mahon becomes judge
A Christchurch lawyer, Mr Garry Mahon, has been appointed a District Court judge in Dunedin. Mr Mahon was educated at St Bede’s College in Christchurch and graduated Ll.B. from the University of Canterbury in 1960. He is 48, married, and has five children. Mr Mahon is a cousin of the former High Court judge, Mr Peter Mahon. Mr Garry Mahon became a partner in the Christchurch firm of A. J. Malley, Son and Brown, now Malley, Mahon and Company, in 1962, and had experience in criminal law, matrimonial and family law, conveyancing, and estate and commercial law. He was a member of the Canterbury District Law Society from 1974 to 1980 and president in 1980. He was a member of the New Zealand Law Society council from 1979 to 1981 and a member of its executive in 1980-81. In 1981-82 he was a member of the Law Society’s disciplinary committee. In 1983, Mr Mahon became a member of the Law Practitioners’ Disciplinary Tribunal.
