Kaoru Heights the one to beat
Special correspondent Auckland All the signs being that his stablemate, Loizell, will race instead at Tauranga, Kaoru Heights has become even more the one to beat in the second leg of the T.A.B. double at the Auckland Racing Club’s meeting at Ellerslie today. The trainer of the two, Colin Jillings, worked Loizell at speed yesterday morning which made it pretty evident the gelding would miss Ellerslie. Kaoru Heights, after galloping strongly on Wednesday was restricted yesterday morning to pacework. Kaoru Heights might not have looked like reaching the best company as a
three-year-old last season but with his four wins and three minor placings he proved decidedly useful. He has shown every indication of going on with it this season.
Two starts back Kaoru Heights beat all except March Sea in a class two sprint at Ellerslie, on August 10, and in his only other race as a four-year-old he finished third at Te Awamutu, over 1600 m on August 30. Kinmoss and Mongolian King are in such form that they must be regarded as dangerous opponents for Kaoru Heights. Bold Edition, in his return to racing after a spell, will be interesting. So will Tigershark
and Sirex, also starting afresh after being let up for a time. Kinmoss was a last-start winner, in a class two 1200 m at Te Rapa last Saturday, Mongolian King weighed-in for , minor placings in each of his last three starts so he is due a win. Bold Edition won three times in the first half of last season, often looking very smart. This will be his first race since the autumn.
