PA Wellington The Dunedin-based department stores owner, Arthur Barnett, Ltd, has announced a 3.5 per cent fall in tax-paid trading profit of $1,070,700 ($1,109,700) for the year ended August 1. Sales of $28,886,700 ($6,154,200) produced a trading profit of $1,973,500 ($2,057,300) from which tax pavable is $902,800 (947,600.

There were no extraordinary items.

The final dividend is 5.5 c a share which, with the interim dividend paid in April of 5.5 c, makes a total of 11c a 50c share. Dividends of $474,100 ($394,900) for the year are covered 2.3 times by tax-paid profit. The directors have allocated for staff profit participation 7.5 per cent of the tax-paid profit, amounting to $80,300 ($83,200).
