Amalgamation
Sir,—Riccarton is a pleasant part to live in; but for me it would not be so without Hagley Park, the Botanic Gardens, the Avon River from the Mickle Gates to the Town Hall, the McDougall Art Gallery, the museum, the Arts Centre, the library, the Town Hall, and “Summer Times.” I would live in Riccarton with a better conscience if I knew that the borough is making a fair contribution to all those things that give Christchurch character and distinction. If amalgamation with the city is the only way to achieve this fairness, then surely we should amalgamate.—Yours, etc., W. L. COX. September 18, 1985.
