Double cream popular
People willing to test samples of double cream have “absolutely swamped” Canterbury Dairy Farmers, Ltd, with requests for the new product. The company announced last week that it proposed to market double cream but needed people to test the product. Double cream is popular in Europe, is often called for in recipes, but is not
marketed in New Zealand. The company’s marketing executive, Ms Sally-Ann Hughes, said yesterday about 200 people had come forward, willing to sample the extra thick cream.
Only 45 samples had been prepared for consumer testing. These were given to the first 45 people who came to collect them. Another batch of sample double cream is being, made and will be
given to the rest of the volunteer testers next week. Each person is also being given a questionnaire on the product to fill in as they sample the cream. Ms Hughes said that most of those who wanted to try the double cream had already tried it overseas. “That is just what we wanted. They can tell us if it is what they want,” she said.
