Condom sales welcomed

Wellington reporter Making condoms available in supermarkets has been welcomed by the Women’s National Abortion Action Campaign. It was indicative of a clear change in community attitudes and followed on from chemists taking a far more positive attitude in putting them on display, said Ms Sue Clement, speaking for the campaign. While condoms had a

major role to play in preventing the spread of sexually transmitted diseases, they were also extremely important in stable relationships, she said. They had no side effects whereas dissatisfaction with the side effects of the Pill, 1.U.D., and depo provera meant that women were looking for safer methods. “Condoms are indeed a family product, alongside toothpaste and hand soap,” Ms Clement said.
