Four hid in bedroom
PA Hamilton Intruders ransacked a Hamilton house overnight while the occupants barricaded themselves in a bedroom, the police said yesterday. The attackers left, then returned, stole a car and set fire to it across town, the police said, adding that there appeared to be no motive for the attack. Detective Inspector Rex Miller said the occupants of the house had only been there two or three months. The intruders might have been after the previous tenants, he said. Mr Miller said there were four people in the house watching television when the intruders arrived. The attackers used iron bars and wooden battens to smash the front glass doors, then set about demolishing the contents of the lounge. They left the property and the occupants emerged. One was about to leave in his car when he saw the attackers returning. He ran inside to warn the others but left his keys in the car. The intruders damaged a motor-cycle, then took the car. It was later found burned out.
