Mineral technology department relocated
PA Dunedin The University of Otago’s department of mineral technology is to move to Auckland, said the chairman of the University Grants Committee, Professor David HaU. Professor Hall said a meeting of the Grants Committee in Wellington confirmed an earlier decision to relocate the department within the Auckland School of Engineering. The decision was made on the recommendation of a review team and the Minister of Education, Mr Marshall. He said the transfer of the department would cost
about $1 million. The committee was confident all studies in mineral technology would be available at Auckland University by 1987. The first professional year would start next year although some students had already started studies in Auckland. .Professor Hall said the University of Otago department required “a substantial upgrading of facilities and the courses needed a i greater engineering coni tent.” The department has six academic staff and a student roll of about 65 [ including intermediate t students.
