Coalition warned on N stance

Wellington reporter The developing Christian Coalition has been warned by the leader of the Democratic Party, Mr Beetham, not to support the pronuclear stance of its United States Moral Majority counterpart. He said that if the Christian Coalition supported the same stance it would seriously restrict its potential political impact. The Christian Coalition would be wise not to mistake political conservatism for Christianity. The strong moral stand against abortion, pornography, and homosexuality was consistent with Biblical teaching, but support for nuclearism was not. In fact, it was just the opposite, and would alienate many Bible-based Christians who would otherwise give their support, Mr Beetham said. Moreover, if the Christian Coalition intended to embrace the pro-nuclear stance, and support only those candidates whose views coincided with their own, they would finish opposing many candidates who supported them on all the other moral issues.
