Six years jail on drug charges

PA Auckland A Manurewa man was jailed for six years for drug dealing when sentenced in the High Court in Auckland yesterday. Mark Hillier, aged 26, a carpenter, was jailed for five years for selling LSD worth $20,000 and for six years for possessing LSD worth $40,000, the terms to be concurrent. He was also ordered to forfeit $14,845 cash which the police found concealed in his home in July. Mr Justice O’Regan said the police found 1930 doses

of LSD concealed in vases and books in Hillier’s home and $14,845 in cash in bedclothes and in a bag in the kitchen. Counsel for the defendant, Mr Christopher Reid, told the court his client was not a professional drug dealer — more a “bungling amateur”. Mr Reid said that a drug importer from Britain came to New Zealand with a load of LSD but, unable to make many sales, left his LSD stock at Hillier’s home. Hillier allowed a drug transaction to be made from his house.
