The Federation is seeking to appoint a senior economist preferrably with some practical experience of industry or commerce and who will be capable of leading the Federation’s Economic and Services Division comprising a team of technical advisors and who will accept the responsibility for formulating and participating in the promotion of the Federation’s policies. The successful applicant, who will report to the Director-General, will be required to advise on economic trends, assess the implications for the manufacturing sector of Government policies, direct the Federation’s research programme and take a leading role in the preparation of submissions. Some involvement in advocacy, secretarial work and travel will be required. Key issues largely relate to international trade policy (especially CER) protection and taxation including GST. It would be expected that the successful applicant will be familiar with these issues and have the ability to understand and promote the needs of manufacturers in these ares. REQUIREMENTS Tertiary qualifications in economics and related subjects. A number of years practical experience as an economist. Age range flexible. Ability to communicate clearly. Versatility to deal with a wide range of issues at any one time. A commercial background and/or working knowledge of the manufacturing sector would be an advantage.
