Couple to sell house, not monkey

By 1

ROBIN CHARTERIS

in London

A couple who love their monkey more than their home have put the property on the market rather than part with him. ■ John and Diana Edwards, of Tamworth, Staffordshire, were told by their local council to get rid of Joseph, their six-month-old pet capuchin monkey, after neighbours had complained. “It’s like telling us to get rid of our own baby,” said Mrs Edwards, aged 21. “Joseph is like a son to us and we will never part with him.”

Their house is now for sale and they are searching for a new property in nearby Derby where they think the authorities will be more sympathetic.
