Top squash seeds win
The top seeds, Craig Hibbert and Joanne Palmer, vindicated their No. 1 rankings by winning the men’s and women’s singles finals at the Spalding Burnside open squash tournament yesterday. In both cases they met the second seeded players in the final. Hibbert dropped the third game against Elliott Jones, but conceded only nine points in winning the first two games and the fourth. Palmer beat Jenny Oakley in straight games in the women’s final. The only seeded player in the men’s singles who failed to reach the semi-finals was Blair Michelson, who was decisively beaten by Brett Hibbert in the quarterfinals. But Craig Hibbert ruthlessly despatched his brother in the next round.
