from the discerning Sydney buyers on Monday night. Knitted wool garments and leather outfits attracted the greatest attention. Mrs Byrne pronounced herself more than satisfied with the impact the New Zealanders had had on the Australian buyers. The same should be tried in other New Zealand markets, such as Japan or Britain. “Part of the reason for the difference between Sydney and Melbourne could be the climate here calls for
different clothing, the city is a whole different ball game,” she said. “Some of the buyers expected the prices to be cheaper simply because the clothes were from New Zealand.” While the shows created a high image for New Zealand, there were stereotyped images of New Zealand among buyers, especially in Sydney, that needed to be broken.
“From a public relations point of view it was A-l.”
