Ship to miss Lyttelton

PA Wellington The new Tasman Express Line will visit only Wellington and Auckland on its inaugural voyage to New Zealand next week.

The line’s first ship Auckland Express has suffered minor damage to her bowthruster and the line has changed its ports of call to ensure that the return voyage to Australia is on schedule.

The ship will now berth at Wellington on Tuesday and at Auckland on Thursday where marine repairs afloat can be made in nontidal currents.

The Auckland Express, an ultra-modern container ship, was to have called at Lyttelton, Wellington and Onehunga. The bowthruster, a propeller which assists in manoeuvring, was damaged while the ship was entering Botany Bay, Sydney, this week.

“The damage in no way affects the operation of the ship,” said the Tasman Express Line’s general manager, Captain Craig Harris.
