Adios King fancied at Ashburton

Adios King would only need to reproduce the form he showed at the Grand National meeting to be the one to beat in the Morwenstow Stud Handicap at Ashburton County Racing Club’s meeting today. The promising Adios II entire ran clear to beat one of today’s rivals, Vendee, convincingly by three lengths over 1400 m on the first day of the Grand National meeting at Riccarton, then chased home Hwyl over the same distance on the second day. He appears ready to run out a strong 1600 m and seems to handle most types of track conditions.

The Thistoll-trained four-year-old is likely to come in for solid support in the third leg of the T.A.B. treble today, in which the chances

of Vendee, likely to be improved with her run at the National meeting, her first for some time; Harbor Flo, disappointing in the Camla Handicap at the Christchurch Hunt meeting last month but better than that; Palvet and Sweet Chat, all rate highly. Sheffield Plate should be

rewarded for consistency in the second leg, the Third Nottingham Park Stud Maiden, while Red Sovereign, a Washdyke-trained four-year-old which has looked promising in just three starts to date, appeals in the first leg, the Golden Elder, a set-weight race over 1200 m.
