Golden Bay oil search
PA Nelsen On-shore drilling for oil is likely to begin in Golden Bay this summer.
The Asia and Pacific explorations manager for Whitestone New Zealand, Ltd, Mr Peter Purcell, has met with Golden Bay county councillors to explain his company’s intentions.
The meeting was closed to the press but Mr Purcell said later that a deviated hole slanting out under the sea was planned. The test drilling site will be on land west of Pillar Point, which is at the base of the western side of Farewell Spit.
