Australia Profit-takers busy

PA Sydney Australian sharemarkets closed slightly easier as profittaking in most sectors outweighed the benefits of a stronger Wall Street and a higher world gold price, brokers said. The market seemed overbought by lunchtime and retreated on the weight of selling and fears of higher interest rates. Near the close of trading, the all ordinaries index had eased 1.2 points to 945.7 after climbing a point early in the day. The gold marker swung between a gain of 9 and 22 points to close 15.5 higher at 1114.
