Head-injury death
A supervisor at Ferrymead Historic Park was killed yesterday when an old cast-iron pillar-box fell on him. He was Raymond George Ward, aged 43, of Northcote Road, Christchurch. The accident happened at 10.45 a.m. in the Hall of Wheels. Mr Ward was trying to
get the pillar-box on to a sack barrow when it appeared that the box came over backwards too far and fell on him, said a police spokesman. The pillar-box is believed to weigh more than a tonne and is about 1.83 m tall and lm round. Mr Ward suffered head injuries and died instantly.
