Tour injunction
Sir,—The letter of Vernon Wilkinson (August 9) misconstrues the words and intent of others, the issue and the facts. Without warning or attempted consultation, two selfstyled rugby . enthusiasts filed a claim against their union’s council. The Chief Justice dismissed their claim in its entirety. Undeterred by their own stated lack of personal financial resources, they appealed and were granted a rehearing. At the subsequent hearing only their evidence was heard, its massive volume preventing any possibility of
the Rugby Football Union presenting its own evidence before the tour departure date. If the claim against the union is seen as virtually unproveable either way, then its original dismissal by the Chief Justice can be seen as the correct one. Certainly the controversy and deep divisiveness resulting from the later High Court judgment which inevitably led to the cancellation of the tour can give no cause for elation in anyone. — Yours, etc.,
G. H. AGER. August 14, 1985.
