Short stories to be repeated
Entries by two Christchurch schoolgirls will be among the five winning Conservation Week short story to be enacted on the National Programme on Saturdays at 3.30 p.m. for the next five weeks, starting tomorrow.
The competition was organised by the National Programme presenter, Robert Taylor, with Ashton Scholastic, Ltd, and Conservation New Zealand. The winning entries were given to Radio New Zealand’s drama section in Auckland where they were read by child actors, with music and sound effects giving them
another dimension.
The results were played on “Early Call” during Conservation Week, but proved so successful that R.N.Z. has decided to repeat them at a later time of day. The winning stories were: “Help,” by Rebecca Barnes, aged 8, of Nelson’ “The Panda Dairy,” by Deidre Hart, aged 9, of Christchurch’ “Runaway,” by Joanna Davis, aged 12, of Christchurch; and untitled entry, by Tanya Maree Gadsby, aged 15, of Winton; and “Young People and Plants are Seen to Need (Help) Each Other,” by Kathryn West, aged 14, of Dunedin.
