Botham’s burden
The former England captain, lan Botham, is going into the fifth cricket test against Australia at Edgbaston, Birmingham, today, with the prospect of disciplinary action hanging over him. The England selectors’ chairman, Mr Peter May, said Botham would appear before the Test and County Cricket Board’s (TCCB) disciplinary committee after incidents during the Third Test at Trent Bridge, Nottingham, last month. Even money is the best
price for a Test draw, which is as short as 8-11 with some bookmakers. England ranges from 6-4 to 2-1 and Australia from 5-2 to 4-1. The teams:— Australia: Andrew Hilditch, Graeme Wood, Kepler Wessels, Allan Border (captain), Greg Ritchie, Wayne Phillips, Simon O’Donnell, Geoff Lawson, Craig McDermott, Jeff Thomson, Bob Holland, Dirk Wellham.
