The bag’s back, but without Selwyn
PA Wellington The programme “It’s In the Bag” returns to television next year, but without Selwyn Toogood as the frontman. The grand old man of New Zealand television has decided someone younger should shout “the money or the bag?” for the next series of the quiz, which will be the first in seven years. He will still have an input into the show as a consultant, however, and will prepare some of the questions as well as going on the road. But as far as fronting it is concerned: “I’m not quite sharp enough. There were one or two things I didn’t pick up on in the twenty-
fifth anniversary special. “I’d hate to see the show dwindle and die out — the format is so good. I think it’s best to let someone else take over.” Mr Toogood, aged 69, is not surprised TVNZ is continuing with the series, which will probably screen next May. “It’s a simple, plain format that everyone understands, and is a lot of fun.” In spite of a hearing problem, Mr Toogood plans to carry on with “Beauty and The Beast” and “W-3.” The head of light entertainment for TVNZ, Mr Malcolm Kemp, said he could not comment on who the new frontman will be until February.
