I Situations Vacant Situations Vacant HYDRO ELECTRIC COMMISSION TASMANIA ENGINEER (Electrical Services) POSITION No. 139/85 LOCATION: King River Power Development on the West Coast of Tasmania, initially based in Queenstown. SALARY: Within a range up to $36,517 per annum. Commencing salary depending on qualifications and experience. In addition payment is made of a Construction Allowance of $395 per annum and a Site Allowance of 68.5 cents per hour worked. DUTIES: Under the direction of the Electical Engineer for Construction Services at Hobart to take charge of the Electrical Construction Services Section in the King River Power Development area. The Electrical Construction Services Section is responsible for providing electrical supplies for all construction requirements in the area. These are principally large civil engineering operations involving the construction of roads, dams, tunnels, shafts, the power station and their ancillary camps, workshops and stores. The appointee will be responsible for the construction and maintenance of all 22 kV overhead lines in the area, 22/6.6 kV ground mounted substations, 22 kV/415 V ground and pole mounted substations, and 415 V reticulation throughout the area. Power supplies at 6.6 or 11 kV to a long underground tunnel will also be a major feature of this development. Erection, installation and maintenance of the electrical equipment associated with the civil plant required for a major heavy construction project is also the responsibility of the Electrical Services Engineer, along with the electrical maintenance of Commission-owned construction offices and homes in Queenstown. The appointee will act as the Electrical Operating Authority and Electrical Inspector for the construction area and will manage staff and award personnel expected to number approximately 55 at the peak of the Development. QUALIFICATIONS: Eligibility for membership of the Institution of Engineers Australia with wide experience in the provision of electrical services to heavy industry, and construction works and/or mining. Experience in installation and maintenance of underground electrical supplies would be an advantage. Ability to organise and control staff scattered over a diverse geographical and technical area is essential. Harmonious liaison with the engineers of other Branches and disciplines on the site is of paramount importance. ACCOMMODATION: Housing is available at Queenstown on a rental basis for a married appointee. Single accommodation also is available at standard staff rates. Queenstown is the centre of a large mining area and contains all modern facilities, including schooling up to high school level. THE COMMISSION: The Hydro-Electric Commission is responsible for the generation, transmission and distribution of electric power throughout the State of Tasmania. In addition its activities include the construction of major civil and electrical engineering projects including roads, dams, tunnels, power stations and high voltage transmission lines. GENERAL: .
