Bankers’ Assn chairman

Mr J. B. Macaulay, chief executive and director of the National Bank of New Zealand, Ltd, has been elected chairman of the New Zealand Bankers’ Association. He succeeds Mr G. P. Thompson, General Manager for New Zealand of the Westpac Banking Corporation. Mr Macaulay joined the National Bank at Oamaru in 1947, and took up his first managerial appointment in 1962 at the age of 32. His subsequent branches included Hastings, where his father had been manager 10 years before. Mr Macaulay was the first general manager of South Pacific Merchant Finance, and he has also been the bank’s international manager, northern regional manager, and assistant and deputy general manager. He is also a director of Databank Systems, Ltd, South Pacific Merchant Finance, Ltd, and Equuas Holdings, Ltd. The new deputy chairman of the association is Mr R. B. McCay, group chief executive of the Bank of New Zealand, who took up his appointment in June, 1985.
