Loch Katrine plan withdrawn

Rangiora reporter A decision on the future of the huts and caravans at Loch Katrine, near Lake Sumner, in North Canterbury has been delayed. The Lands and Survey Department has withdrawn the Draft Management Plan for the Loch Katrine Recreation Reserve, first published in December, 1984, because correct procedures were not followed in its preparation. The notice of intention to prepare the plan, calling for submissions on the future management of the reserve, was first advertised in 1974, before the land was formally reserved. This is

legally incorrect as the land must be classified as a reserve before intentions to prepare a management plan can be advertised. After representations by the Loch Katrine Association, the Commission of Crown Lands said that because of the incorrect procedures the plan would be withdrawn and intentions to prepare a plan readvertised. This means the whole management plan process for the reserve will be begun again, and interested groups and persons should make their submissions to the department on the management of the reserve by August 30.
