NZPA-AAP Canberra Australia has recalled its Ambassador to South Africa, Mr Robert Birch, for discussions on a Government review of its links with the apartheid State, said the Foreign Affairs Minister, Mr Bill Hayden, yesterday.

Mr Hayden said that Mr Birch had been asked to return to Australia for “consultations and advice in respect of the Government review of contacts with South Africa.” Mr Hayden would not say when or if Mr Birch would return to his posting.
