Conference for Maoris in tourism
Wellington reporter A conference to involve Maoridom in the tourism boom will be held in Rotorua from September 25 to 27. The Minister of Maori Affairs, Mr Wetere, said that as part of the Maori drive for economic development the conference would be co-sponsored by the Maori Affairs Department and the Tourist and Publicity Department. The conference had two aims, he said. First, it would seek to identify the areas of the tourism industry in which Maoridom could involve itself in the next five to 10 years. Second, it would give Maoris already in the tourism industry a chance to meet and exchange ideas on business, and to plan Maori participation in tourism, specially in management training, and education. Mr Wetere said this could be done if Maori products were identified.
