Plans for U.S. base unchanged
The United States has confirmed plans to improve its Antarctic base at Christchurch Airport. The director of New Zealand’s Antarctic Division, Mr Bob Thomson, confirmed yesterday that during a recent visit to the United States he was assured the work would proceed. The assurances, by National Science Foundation officials, scotched suggestions that the Americans might move their base from New Zealand because of the A.N.Z.U.S. row.
