Governor’s Bay scheme
A preferrred sewerage and water supply scheme for the Governor’s Bay area has been chosen by the Mount Herbert County Council on the basis of a household survey last year.
The scheme includes a sewerage treatment plant at Governor’s Bay with treated effluent discharge into the harbour waters, and an unrestricted full mains pressure, water supply. Governor’s Bay ratepayers will vote next month on whether the council should raise a loan of 51,235,000 to pay for the scheme.
A postal poll of all ratepayers will close on September 4 and a majority of
votes either for or against the loan will decide whether the scheme goes ahead. A referendum will be held on August 17 at the Governor’s Bay School to decide whether ratepayers want the option of a lump sum payment in addition to a uniform annual rating charge option to meet the scheme’s capital cost. The council has guaranteed that the uniform annual charge will not exceed 51250. If ratepayers choose the lump sum payment option it would be 56223, based on 5225 rateable properties. Both options will require an annual maintenance charge of 5190. These are the most up-to-
date figures available for the scheme. Costs for alternative schemes printed in “The Press” yesterday are now out of date.
If the loan is approved the work will be eligible for a Health Department subsidy.
