Nat. Blood, to diversify
PA Auckland National Bloodstock Corporation, Ltd, is likely to diversify into “health” products for animals as well as people. The chairman, Mr D. W. Phillips, told the annual meeting today that an announcement about this was imminent. He told a reporter later that the health function “would not necessarily be New Zealandbased at the time of purchase, but may well be re-located in New Zealand.” Mr Phillips said that, as well as health food for people, National Bloodstock would probably produce scientifically
researched nutrition plans for breeding and race horses, and other animals. The company also hoped to produce non-food health products such as toothpaste and shampooo. National Bloodstock would be involved in manufacture, wholesale, distribution, exporting, and possibly the retailing of its health products. Mr Phillips said that events after balance date had given the company confidence it would achieve the $2 million profit forecast for this financial year. The company was looking towards an asset base that provided a cross-section of in-
dustry investments to allow for a balance of short-term, medium-term and longer-term profit. The company intended to move into tourism in the 198687 year, said Mr Phillips. It had bought a 75 per cent interest in a 115.7 ha Waikato stud farm near Hamilton. National Bloodstock’s specialist bloodstock company, Redvale Standardbreds, Ltd, would be floated on the Stock Exchange before Christmas. Mr Phillips said National Bloodstock would organise a standardbred yearling sale for its own horses, those of its associated partnerships and a few others.
