Tug dispute conciliation
PA Auckland The Auckland Harbour Board has called for an industrial conciliator in a bid to settle a strike by tug hands. The strike, which began on Wednesday afternoon, has stopped all shipping movements at the port of Auckland. The dispute is over the board’s latest acquisition, the $4.7 million tug Hauraki, which is expected to reduce either overtime earnings or manning levels. The board yesterday asked an industrial conciliator, Mr Brian Gray, to help resolve the dispute. He has asked the tug hands to return to work as a gesture of good faith to allow talks to proceed. A meeting of tug wofkers will be held at 8 a.m. today.
