14 p.c. rate rise expected

Mount Herbert County ratepayers can expect an average rate increase of about 14 per cent for the 1985-86 financial year. The annual estimates were adopted and the rates, which were set at a meeting on July 10, confirmed at a meeting of the Mount Herbert County Council this week. Estimated expenditure for the year is $401,490, an increase of 3.4 per cent compared with last year. The main item of expenditure will be roads, streets, and bridges. Subsidised work in this area is estimated at $222,000 and nonsubsidised work $29,000, for a total of $257,000. Other expenditure items include administration, refuse and sanitation, recreation, housing, and pest eradication.
