14 p.c. rate rise expected
Mount Herbert County ratepayers can expect an average rate increase of about 14 per cent for the 1985-86 financial year. The annual estimates were adopted and the rates, which were set at a meeting on July 10, confirmed at a meeting of the Mount Herbert County Council this week. The rates include a uniform charge of $112.50, an increase of 12.5 per cent on last year, and a general rate of 0.0032689 c in the dollar on the capital value of all rateable properties. The council expects to
collect $221,338 in rates revenue for the year towards a total estimated revenue for a little under $400,000. Estimated expenditure for the year is $401,490, an increase of 3.4 per cent compared with last year. The main item of expenditure will be roads, streets, and bridges. Subsidised work in this area is estimated at $222,000 and nonsubsidised work $29,000, for a total of $257,000. Other expenditure items include administration, refuse and sanitation, recreation, housing, and pest eradication.
