Stolen weapons recovered
Most of the weapons stolen in Monday’s $20,000 raid at Shooters’ Supplies, Ltd, in Riccarton Road, have been recovered by the police. Detective Senior-Sergeant David Haslett said that four or five of the 26 guns stolen were still missing. Most of these were shotguns.
He said also that three samurai swords and six machetes were missing. Five samurai swords and four machetes had been recovered. He was optimistic about finding more weapons, and finding more offenders. The police recovered most of the weapons from a
house in west Christchurch on Tuesday, after they found the burnt-out remains of a Bedford truck that was used in the raid. A raid at another house later on Tuesday netted seven weapons. Two men have been arrested in connection with the raid. One, aged 23, was remanded yesterday on $7500 bail in the District
Court to August 8 on six charges. The other, aged 29, will appear in court today charged with receiving goods to the value of $8492 from the stolen arsenal. Several detectives from the police break squad are working part-time on the case. Court report, page 7
