Egg review ends

The review of the egg industry is drawing to a close as officials from three Government departments prepare to report next month to the Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr Caygill. The Industries Development Commission produced a report on the egg industry in February, after hearing submissions on a draft report during November last year. Mr Caygill decided to make the LD.C.’s recommendations public and called for submission on them. The submissions and the I.D.C. report have for six weeks been under consideration by officials of the

Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, the Department of Trade and Industry and Treasury. The assistant director of the Economics Division of the M.A.F., Mr John Askwith, said about 30 groups made submissions on the I.D.C. report — virtually the same groups which made submissions on the draft report last year. They included the Poultry Board, producers, marketers, distributors and consumers. The composite report from the departmental officials is likely to be sent to the Cabinet committee on development and marketing by Mr-Caygill.
