A trip to Singapore, with a parent or guardian, is the prize won by Lisa Butler, of Auckland, and Robert Waddell, of Pio Pio, in a national essay competition. They were presented with their tickets by the general manager of Singapore Airlines in New Zealand, Mr David Lee. Lisa, aged 16, of Epsom Girls’ Grammar (Auckland), topped the secondary schools section with a story about a tree on the front lawn of her Mangere home. Robert, aged 10, of Pio Pio Primary School, won the primary and intermediate school section. The competition marked the United Nations’ Decade of the Tree and was on the topic, “How do trees growing in towns and cities help people?”
